Affordable housing on TV

"Tell It Like It Is" host Karen Nelson explores the many facets of affordable housing with guests Brent Butler and Sandy Hershelman. Butler is a Port Townsend City Councilman; Hershelman a candidate for Jefferson County Commissioner. Both have spent years advocating on behalf of housing affordability: Butler as a planner and Hershelman working on behalf of the local builders.

Jefferson County is the second least affordable county in the state. The housing affordability equation has many factors: workforce housing, subsidized housing, sweat equity programs, reasonable rents, zoning, keeping a lid on building regulations, and public/private partnerships.

Taped on July 19, the show airs through August on Fridays at 11:30 a.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Port Townsend Television, formerly PTTV, channels 97 and 98.
